A smart and reliable 5G network for AZ Zeno

The 5G-PHINGE project enhances connectivity at AZ Zeno with a mission-critical 5G network. This network provides stable, secure, and high-speed communication for critical and innovative healthcare applications. By integrating Voice-over-New Radio (VoNR) and drone technology, the project supports smart hospital solutions such as closed loop medication. This helps AZ Zeno operate more efficiently and prepares it for the future of healthcare.

The project includes designing, implementing, testing, and validating advanced healthcare solutions. We ensure these solutions meet the needs of hospitals and healthcare providers. This leads to improved patient care, higher efficiency, and new opportunities for medical innovation.

Why this project?

Hospitals face major challenges: an aging population, increasing demand for healthcare, staff shortages, and outdated networks. These issues hinder efficient communication and technological innovation. 5G-PHINGE offers a future-proof 5G network that enables fast and reliable communication. This allows hospitals to adopt new technologies to improve patient care.

From design to implementation

Key innovations in 5G-PHINGE

Transition from Voice-over-WiFi to Voice-over-New Radio (VoNR)
We replace the current equipment with new, stable, and reliable communication systems. This significantly improves voice communication within the hospital and increases efficiency.

Three-way medicine confirmation system
For medication administration, we implement a multi-phase verification system. Caregivers scan their badge, the medication, and the patient. This enhances safety, accuracy, and prevents medication errors. This system is also known as a closed-loop medication system.

Wireless panic and security systems
We improve monitoring for high-risk patients. This system detects confusion and aggressive behavior, tracks vital signs, and integrates with medication management. This enhances safety and efficiency in healthcare.

Drone connectivity for medical transport
On-demand blood transport is provided between the campuses in Knokke and Blankenberge. We use advanced drone technology to ensure fast, efficient, and safe deliveries.

In collaboration with AZ Zeno and Maria Middelares, Citymesh is exploring how 5G can contribute to more efficient healthcare processes and improved connectivity within and beyond the hospital. By testing this technology in practice, the partners aim to assess how 5G can enable faster communication, high-quality patient care, and a future-proof hospital environment.
