The Nordsee Ost offshore wind farm is located in the eastern part of the German North Sea. The 48 wind turbines supply about 320,000 households with electricity. The Nordsee Ost project produces 296MW power and is one of the largest commercial wind energy projects off the German coast.

The turbine manufacturer Senvion was looking for a solution that could provide reliable internet onboard and inside the turbines. Citymesh was quickly called upon for its expertise in 4G, 5G, WiFi and mesh solutions used in challenging situations. Wireless mesh solutions were delivered for over six months thanks to the Nova Node. The solution supported communication in the wind farm, vessel-to-vessel and vessel-to-shore communication.

Senvion was responsible for the operation and maintenance of the wind turbine generators during the installation. Citymesh equipment is still prominent in Nordsee Ost. The companies that take care of the further maintenance can use the connectivity solutions effortlessly.
