Ashtead Technology is assisting Fugro Subsea Services in driving safety and efficiency across a complex multi-vessel operation in North Africa. Citymesh (formerly known as nCentric) delivered the state-of-the-art wireless mesh communication network.

A Complex Offshore Operation

Utilising the latest Citymesh Nova Node technology combined with the Hyperbox, Ashtead has supplied seamless video streaming and data transmissions. This way they could provide fast, cost-effective broadband communications between four vessels during the installation and hook-up of a new floating, storage and offloading vessel (FSO).

The system can be configured remotely and monitored in real-time from an onshore location. This limits downtime and creates a reliable communication link in challenging, hard-to-reach areas.

Ashtead

The leading independent provider of subsea equipment rental, sales and services to the offshore industry, Ashtead was selected as Fugro’s preferred supplier of subsea rental equipment and associated services in 2015.

Ross MacLeod, business development director at Ashtead Technology, said: “This contract further strengthens our relationship with this important customer and reflects our shared vision of using advanced technology to challenge conventional methods to bring safer, more efficient and reliable services to the subsea market. Over the past 18 months, we have increased our focus on delivering real value and greater efficiencies to our clients, guaranteeing access to the latest and most in-demand technology on the market.”

“The Citymesh system allows to specifically address the customers’ communication requirements and provides a high bandwidth link between their assets. It has been used to coordinate efforts in a number of high-profile projects across the globe. One of these projects was the clean-up operation following the Deep Water Horizon disaster in 2010.”

Unlike traditional cable networks, the Citymesh solutions can be installed within an hour. The exchange of data and video images in real-time is critical to manage ROVs and subsea operations, as well as maintain operational safety.

Fugro

Fugro is the world’s leading, independent provider of geo-intelligence and asset integrity solutions for large constructions, infrastructure and natural resources.

“The Citymesh wireless solution for vessel to vessel or vessel to shore communication is proving to be a useful system and the feedback I am getting from my offshore staff is very favourable. With this in mind I have suggested to colleagues that its use could be extended to some of our other operations” - Fugro spokesperson
