Recently several of the Van Oord’s vessels have been equipped with Nova Nodes by Citymesh (formerly known as nCentric). The Nova Nodes provide wireless vessel-to-vessel communication.
In general, the Nova Node is used to monitor offshore operations. They increase communication and can relay high definition footage from Remotely Operated Vehicles (ROVs) in real-time. In combination with the Hyperbox, a multitude of bidirectional serial data as well as analogue or digital video feeds can be transmitted and received. The system can be configured and monitored from an onshore location, reducing the number of people required offshore and limiting downtime.
At the Borkum Riffgrund 2, the Nova Nodes support high bandwidth, high-speed traffic. This was necessary for the exchange of their critical offshore communication during the installation phase at BRG2.
As companies venture into increasingly remote and isolated locations, communication lifelines are vital to manage fleet and vessel operations as well as maintain crew safety. Citymesh offshore solutions have been built to withstand challenging conditions encountered in oil and gas, military and wind farms, with minimal maintenance required.
