Brussels Airport, one of the first sites in Belgium with 5G technology, accelerates operations and fosters technological innovation.

This 5G deployment allows us to advance digital innovations and seamlessly integrate future technologies.”

The private 5G-ready network provides more efficient, reliable, and faster connectivity than WiFi or public 4G across airport grounds. With 5G’s higher capacity, the airport deploys technologies like IoT, automated vehicles, mobile safety systems, and track-and-trace solutions. These enhancements improve both the operational efficiency and the reliability of airport systems.

Pioneering Connectivity with Nokia and Citymesh

Brussels Airport partnered with Nokia and Citymesh to build a 5G-ready network, strengthening connectivity and operational efficiency.

In the first phase, they will deploy 5G outdoors across the airport grounds, followed by indoor implementation. The team plans to test various technologies and applications inside and outside to assess their value for airport operations.

“Brussels Airport’s adoption of the Nokia Digital Automation Cloud platform demonstrates strong confidence in our industrial-grade private wireless technology,” says Stephan Litjens, General Manager at Nokia Digital Automation. “Deploying 4.9/LTE today and 5G in the future aligns with their vision of modernizing airport operations. Airport automation is essential for improving efficiency, reliability, and operational awareness as business models evolve.”
