“Citymesh operates a network of more than 50 drone installations across Belgium (70 by the end of the year). From this R.O.C., together with two other centers, the drones are centrally controlled. Fire departments and other safety services receive crucial information in real time, allowing them to act faster and more efficiently,” explains Hans Similon, General Manager of Citymesh Drones.
In addition, with its drone network and experienced pilots, Citymesh can also respond to challenges posed by hostile drones, such as the recent incidents involving drones at Scandinavian airports.
During the press demonstration, a so-called rogue drone (an unwanted or hostile drone) entered the airspace. The Senhive sensor technology integrated in the Skeydrone platform detected the intruder, after which the Citymesh Safety Drone automatically took off.

“The Citymesh Safety Drone not only mapped the behavior of the intruder but was also able to locate the pilot. Thanks to powerful cameras supported by a strong and reliable 5G network, the pilot was clearly identified,” says Hans Similon.
Details such as a license plate or vehicle are then forwarded in real time to the competent authorities. This combination of location data and visual identification enabled safety services to intervene quickly and accurately.
The location of the Limburg R.O.C. is also a strong asset. “By relocating both the R.O.C. and the registered office of Citymesh Drones to Sint-Truiden, we are further anchoring ourselves in Limburg. DronePort is also the hub for drone companies and research in Belgium, providing the ideal ecosystem to foster collaborations, develop new applications, and further strengthen Citymesh’s international role as a European pioneer in the drone industry,” says Similon.
“All in all, this R.O.C. marks the next step in the professionalization of our Safety Drone Network,” says Similon. “Today we show how drones are not just eyes in the sky but also deliver crucial information that enables emergency services to act faster and more safely. Doing this from DronePort in Limburg gives us the perfect foundation to continue growing.”
