This summer, the Belgian Coast Guard is taking a new step forward in aerial surveillance. By deploying the AVY Aera 4 VTOL drone, the participating police districts are strengthening their capabilities in the fight against human trafficking and illegal crossings of the English Channel. With a fully operational drone ecosystem, Citymesh supports them with BVLOS expertise, system integration, training, technical support, and regulatory guidance. This ensures the drone can be deployed safely, efficiently, and in compliance with regulations.
From Technology to Operational Deployment
The project is a collaboration between several police districts along the Belgian coast: Bredene/De Haan, Blankenberge/Zuienkerke, Bruges, and Damme/Knokke-Heist, which operate jointly under the name PZ Oostkust. Citymesh handled the entire system integration and trained the operators at the Citymesh Remote Operations Center (ROC) in Oostkamp. The hands-on training then took place at a temporary operations center at the Bredene police station.

During operations, live video footage is securely shared with the participating police districts and the Federal Police, providing various agencies with real-time situational awareness simultaneously.
