Upgrading a camping site to a five-star holiday park for Kompas Camping

Challenge

Kompas Camping is a holiday park in Nieuwpoort and Westende like no other. Their ambition is to become the first five-star holiday park in Belgium, and to achieve that lofty ambition, they are looking to improve every aspect of their facilities to meet their new standards. When it comes to their network, they have been relying on the expertise Citymesh has provided for over a decade now. While it was just leveraging a WiFi solution for all of their visitors ten years ago, where visitors had to go to the camping reception and ask for a “WiFi ticket,” and we used point-to-point connections to provide WiFi in every area of the camping site, they need a five-star solution today.

Solution

Kompas Camping is revamping its camping site and installing luxury lodges in certain areas, and those lodges need every form of comfort you would find back at home. Including a fast internet connection and TV. Instead of working with the pay-per-use WiFi tickets they used in the past, Kompas shifted to a subscription model, where WiFi is included in the rental price. Kompas Camping invited us to install fiber all over their camping site, for their finished buildings (the luxury lodges) as well as for yet-to-be-built rooms. They are planning to install floating lodges on the nearby lake, so we already planned fiber cable at the shores of that lake. Another challenge was providing TV for all of the lodges, rooms, and camping spots. It was challenging because we had never done that before, and there were no coaxial or other connections yet. So, we decided to partner with TV Vlaanderen and free-to-air broadcasters and installed three satellite dishes to inject the TV signal into the fiber network, leveraging popular Belgian as well as foreign TV channels to every lodge of Kompas Camping.

Results

Being invited from the start, we could leverage a fast and stable fiber internet connection as well as TV, which is an absolute necessity when camping at the – sometimes rainy – Belgian coast. Visitors leave their lodges when the sun is out, but when it starts raining, they all go back inside and watch, stream, or download whatever they want to see from the comfort of their vacation homes.
